After seeing Sex Substitute I’m considering starting a house-sitting business. I think I could do it. Hang out in the luxurious digs of the wealthy, water a plant or two, and tend to other minor household affairs. And, if I’m lucky, I’ll even get to have sex - lots of sex - with all manner of gorgeous women who happen by, and even get paid extra for it!
Sure, it’s pure guy fantasy, and one that under-employed screenwriter Drake (Jack Lincoln) gets to live out while working for wealthy new-age therapist Carrie (Catalina Larranaga). In her rush to leave town, she gives Drake the run of her fabulously lavish pad. Little does she know, however, that Drake will also take care of her clientele when the real substitute shrink calls in sick. Upon discovering his knack for counseling women, the talk-and-massage sessions get seriously intimate, and soon the business of satisfying their most personal needs becomes too much for one man to handle, and good buddy and out-of-work actor Nick (Sebastien Guy) is more than happy to help out.
There are babes-o-plenty in Sex Substitute , with Flower (also known as Flower Edwards), cast here as Nick’s sweet, but somewhat distraught girlfriend who’s troubled by her difficulties curbing her sexual impulses when around other men. Seeking counsel at the “clinic,” she eventually happens upon Nick doing sexual “therapy” near the movie’s end, and that’s when the jig is up. Flower fans take note: she’s showcased in this movie in several spirited encounters, each of which is better than the one before, and with the best saved for last in a fireside finale of make-up sex that is hotter than the flames flickering in the background.
Even hotter, though, is a two-scene sequence featuring adult-star colleague Keanna Tai, an Asian knockout who we first see in a fairly brief but blistering solo scene that has her cooing and writhing in response to her own touch. Careful attention to detail was obviously given to setting up this scene– the sound, score, and lighting are almost as perfect as Keanna’s soft, full curves and flawless complexion. I doubt that very many viewers will dare blink while watching this exotic beauty caress her breasts with one hand while the other dips below the pantyline. Before long, off slide the panties for a lingering look at her in all her glory just as a golden, phallic-shaped vibrator appears and is sensuously slid right about where you’d expect it to do the most good. Yowzah!! (During scenes like this, I’m thankful for the retractable spring mechanism that snaps my popping eyeballs back into their sockets!) But believe it or not, there’s more: fully primed, she’s then escorted to the hot tub to satisfy another client’s desire to make love to another woman (with guidance and participation, of course, by her male therapist, Nick) as we’re treated to a delectibly erotic threesome. Without question, it’s one of the most potent one-two punches I’ve ever seen in a softcore flick.
If all this sounds like so much watered down porn, I’ve misled you: Sex Substitute is not to be confused with your basic wall-to-wall sexfest or T & A special. Even though there are more patch-and-slit shots than you can shake a stick (and other things) at, it’s a story that is not without humor and charm. At times, it also approaches being touching, with moments that women viewers will applaud and, very likely, even get turned on by. Quite simply, this is one fun and damn sexy piece of softcore.
