If you didn’t already guess it, this movie is another parody from the folks at Seduction Cinema, and this time they have trained their sights on Tim Burton’s “Planet of the Apes”. The first thing I’ll tell you is that this version is not only funnier than the original, it is also ten times more entertaining. And did we mention the lesbians?

Ok, granted there are some people out there who don’t quite get the joke that director Bacchus and his crew are putting across, and sure, maybe the explicit sex that was a big part of their previous efforts has been scaled back a bit to make room for more comedic high-jinks (and perhaps to add an air of “legitimacy”). But this movie is freakin’ funny ! And with enough jiggling naked flesh and lesbian lovemaking to keep the softcore fans interested, it all adds up to a well-rounded, highly-entertaining flick.

The production budget has definitely improved, and some of the ape makeup was pretty impressive, especially that of General Lade (played by Bacchus’ thespian alter-ego, Zachary Snygg) and Dr. Cornholeus (played by fellow Canuck, Debbie Rochon). The wide assortment of dimestore monkey masks and ape costumes that make up the rest of the cast add to the humor, especially the flashing hot pink ape costume used for the gay “How’s my butt? It’s not glowing like a baboon’s, is it?” Dr. Kweera (Dan Schwab).

The humans are led by the waifish Gaylor (Misty Mundae), who with her blonde, stacked-n-packed fellow astronauts Anoushka and Sharon Engert, are stranded on the ape planet. Lost, confused, and with no way home, they do what anyone else would do in the same situation: strip off their clothes and get busy. The girls raise havoc when they are also discovered to have the ability to dance and shake their ta-ta’s, which they do to great effect when not engaged in orgiastic lesbian sex with themselves or with an attractive slavegirl named Uvala (Darian Caine). As in the original flick, the apes believe that humans do not posess any “soul”, and it’s up to Dr Cornholeus to prove General Lade wrong and save the day for the rest of the humans.

In my opinion, the best sex scenes are towards the end of the movie when barbarian Queen Shelby Taylor makes an appearance. She seduces both Misty Mundae and Darrian Caine in scenes that manage to be warmly erotic and sensual without the explicit nudity that was part of Seduction’s earlier efforts. Lots of deep tongue kissing, lots of breast and nipple play, and even some ass cheek nuzzling. But things don’t quite reach the boiling point.

We always knew that the Seduction crew would eventually get around to making a monkey movie; Kimbo the Gorilla has been a staple in almost every feature since “Erotic Witch”!

Seduction always offers lots of DVD extras, and this disc includes the video “We’re the Humans” (based on “We’re the Monkees”) and various Behind-the-Scenes featurettes. All in all, Play-mate is an entertaining and funny movie for those of you who know what you’re in for when you slide a Seduction flick into the player.

And did we mention the lesbians?
